Having worked at some of the countries top restaurants Matt has now returned to the countryside that he grew up in to open up his first solo venture. With a passion for british food, you’ll only find seasonal and local dishes on the menu, which changes daily. As often as Matt’s mood in fact. Whether you’re a meat lover, a seafood scoffer or a vegetable fanatic they’ll always be something to tickle your taste buds. As much as possible he tries to source produce from within the hundred itself.

Banqueting menus are available for tables of eight or more. Please see our private events section for further information.


We’re a village pub so in the Gatehanger bar you can expect to find an array of drinks from the most splendid of local ales (some are from a stones throw away) to a selection of wines, spirits teas and coffee. There is also a bar snack menu which changes daily. But there is always a good old sandwich or fries available should you fancy something a little less fancy.


The Hundred of Ashendon has five unique en-suite rooms, comprising of one large king / family room which has a double bed and a sofa bed that can sleep up to 2 small children. We charge an extra £15 per child to cover extra laundry and breakfast.

We also have two doubles, one twin and one single room. All rooms have tv and wifi is available. All room rates include a breakfast from our breakfast menu which is served in the restaurant downstairs. Weekdays 7:30am-8.30am and on weekends between 9:00am – 10:00am. Afternoon check in time is from 12-3pm or evening check-in is from 6-9pm. But if you require a different time please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Monday’s we are closed all day so please telephone the out of hours number to arrange a specific check in time. Please note there is also no bar or restaurant open on monday’s either, but we’re more than happy to recommend other local pubs that are open and serving food if you need us to. We are Matt and Pia and we’re doing what we always wanted to do. We’re surrounded by our family and fields. Matt is putting his passion for British food into practice. He’s pouring his experience at top restaurants like St John into every litre of stock. He’s doing what he believes in. Keeping it seasonal. Keeping it local. And that goes for the pub itself. We’re going to keep that local. We’re both from the area. This is not a commercial development.

It’s our home.

We want to make The Hundred a place with personality. And we suppose that will have to be ours. We’re pretty down to earth, we like to enjoy ourselves and entertain others. We work hard and we only want to produce the best.

Otherwise there’s no point.

And our style is our own. The furniture’s from Ebay not Pine Central. The rooms are comfortable to stay in but not beautiful to look at. Yet. Give us a little time and the décor will be as delicious as the food.

We intend to cram this lovely, little place with character and soul. And everyone is welcome. Bring your kids, your pets, your mates, your boots, your nan, your boss, your lover.

Yes, we’re doing what we always wanted to do. And we just want to share that with as many people as possible.




We love nothing more than to see big groups of people sharing a good old feast together. Food piled high on platters and everyone digging in, what’s not to love? So if you’re a group of eight or more you can book a table and order from our seasonal banqueting menu. Please contact us if you'd like to request the menu. 


Yes, we’re available to hire for private functions, including both downstairs and all the rooms above. You can do a total buy out and we’ll shut the whole place off for you, or you can just hire the restaurant or bar area. A great way to impress your friends and family for that special event. And the best part is you don’t have to clear up after. We do it all for you.


Want to take Matt home with you? Not for keeps but you can hire him to cater for your own private event. From weddings to funereal, birthdays to bar mitzvah he’s happy to cook up some treats for you and all your guests. We can also provide temporary bars and waitresses should you require those too.

Put your wellies on and trudge through the fields on a marvelous walk. There are many footpaths that lead here. Have a look at some of the best local walks here.

Dogs and children are welcome so no excuse for not bringing them along with you.


We’re always impressed when cyclists make it up the hill to us. Although we don’t have bike stands yet you’re very welcome to lock bikes up around the back of the building if you need to.




We have a vacancy for a House Keeper & cleaner. Our 5 en-suite rooms of bed & breakfast require often daily house keeping duties when guest are booked to stay, from servicing a room to a full clean. The hours are varied as it depends on bookings, but it will involve mornings on weekdays and weekends when guests stay.  The hours depends on how quickly a room is serviced and how many need doing. We have a laundry service company that we use and the job involves making sure all the dirty laundry is sent on time, and unpacked when it's returned clean each week.  This job would suit someone local and who doesn't mind working flexible hours. Own transport is essential. Pay will depend upon experience but it's an hourly rate and then cash tips & credit cards tips too from the restaurant too which all add up to a nice monthly extra.
